LiteWork Events originated as a vision to create an Urban Socialite Network in Boston. What better way to build on this vision than to highlight some of Boston’s most dynamic urban young professionals and socialites! Check out our latest feature, and hopefully you’ll also catch up with them at our next event!
Name: Kanisha Louis Jean
Where are you from? Boston, MA – family from Haiti
Alma Mater? UMass Amherst ’11, BS in Public Health Sciences
What brings you to Boston? You mean HOW am I still in Boston? Not sure. I keep following my passions and somehow seems to keep me home…
Tell us about yourself (What are you passionate about? Any side hustles?):
Introverted mind functioning as an extrovert… I love meeting new people and social settings. And nothing’s like a day of meditation, reflection, and the DVR. My professional life is driven by passion for sexual and reproductive health education and youth development. I love young people. No matter how the day is going, I could walk into a room of youth and instantly feel transformed. I’m blessed to have a relevant role at Everett High School’s teen clinic, where 8 hours of work flies by before my eyes daily. There I counsel on sexual and reproductive health, teach classes on same topics, and run an after-school club of peer health educators.
7 years ago, I pledged a lifetime of dynamic sisterhood and service to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. I am part of the Boston Alumnae chapter and chair the “After7” committee, our bimonthly networking events that connect and engage Boston area professionals. Among other roles, I also serve on the Rhoer Club committee, our youth development program that aims to provide a positive experience for girls through leadership, community service, and scholarship.
Maintaining fitness and a healthy lifestyle is a priority (most days). When not working, catch me on the next flight to one the Caribbean’s top beaches.
What’s one thing we should know about you? I made this super radical decision last year to put God at the center of my life and since… Well you try it and find out 🙂
And there you have it folks… #followthelite!
